JOHN DUCKWORTH
Walking the line between realism and abstraction, artist John Duckworth infuses his paintings, photographs, and films with a passion for pure color, an intimate knowledge of nature, and a rhythm drawn from life itself. A native of California, Duckworth was drawn to the lush lowlands of South Carolina thirteen years ago and has recently settled in a hundred-year-old farmhouse in the rural horse country of Johns Island. Influenced by his environment, Duckworth also seeks inspiration from a plethora of sources such as the vivid colors of Thiebaud, the quiet solitude of Hopper, the still scenes of Jean-Luc Goddard, the captured moments of Cartier-Bresson, the serenity of Rothko, the diversity and range of Richter, and the endless juxtapositions of Albers. Exhibited internationally, Duckworth's mesmerizing photographs, paintings, and films that connect art with life are included in significant private and corporate collections around the world.

THE LANDSCAPE ABSTRACTS SERIES:
Formally trained in both painting and photography, Duckworth shares his unique vision in the Landscape Abstracts series. Like paintings from a camera, the Landscape Abstracts evoke the sea, forest, marsh, and sky in bands of saturated color. These soothing, intuitive images distill the landscape into the essence of that particular place, much as memory selectively blurs and softens the edges of experience leaving behind only the deepest marks on the senses. The works balance the natural as much as the formal elements of the composition. Simultaneously traditional and contemporary, accurate and abstract, the photographic encounter of the Landscape Abstracts changes as subtly as the captured seasons. They are a window to the world, revealing quiet moments of introspection through the infinitely serene colors of nature.

TECHNICAL ARTISTRY:
These meditative photographs are left in their original state as taken, not altered on the computer, a process Duckworth has perfected. Together with master printer Austin Schulz, Duckworth produces all his work in his state-of-the-art digital darkroom using an Epson 9880 wide format printer with Ultrachrome K3 archival inks. The canvases are given a protective UV coating and then stretched in-house over custom designed stretcher bars. The finishing touch is added with handmade and locally milled wood floater frames. Editions are limited to only 5 per image, no matter the size, increasing the uniqueness and value of the work. Standard sizes are 20x30", 26x40" and 40x60" (with 60x90" available upon request).
